★ MEGA TELECOM EXCLUSIVE

Switch to postpaid later —
your last top-up becomes credit.

Start prepaid with your passport. Get your ARC in about 3–4 weeks. Convert with the same number — your last prepaid top-up is registered as credit on your KT account, and your monthly bills come out of that credit before your bank is charged.

01

Activate prepaid

Walk in with your passport. Pick a Welcome plan. Line active in minutes.

02

Get your ARC

Continue using KT while you wait for your Alien Registration Card — usually 3–4 weeks.

03

Convert to postpaid

Same number, same line. Your last top-up becomes credit toward your postpaid bills.

Example
Welcome 5 — last top-up ₩55,000
₩55,000 credit
Available at all 4 Mega Telecom stores: Itaewon · Sindang · Dongbu-Ichon · Sookmyung Univ.
BEFORE YOU VISIT

What you'll need

Three things. Bring them and you walk out with a working line.

1

Passport

That's the only ID you need. No ARC, no Korean bank account, no address proof.

  • Must be the original, not a copy
  • ARC-less prepaid lines are valid for 90 days
2

Unlocked phone with a SIM slot

Prepaid is physical USIM only — there is no eSIM option.

  • Carrier-locked phones won't accept our USIM
  • eSIM-only iPhones (US models) won't work
  • No phone yet? Buy one in store at the same time
3

₩7,700 USIM fee + plan fee

Paid once at signup, on the spot. Cash or card both fine.

  • USIM card: ₩7,700 (one-time)
  • Plan fee: charged up front for the period you choose
  • No monthly bill afterwards — you top up when you want

VALIDITY PERIOD

Bigger top-ups last longer.

Each top-up extends your line’s active period. Larger amounts get exponentially more time.

FAQ

Common questions, answered.

Everything you might want to confirm before walking in.

Do I really need an ARC to sign up?
No — your passport is enough for a prepaid line. ARC-less lines are valid for 90 days only. If you stay longer and get your ARC, you can keep the same number and switch to postpaid (see the credit benefit above).
Can I use eSIM instead of a physical SIM?
No, prepaid is physical USIM only. Check your phone has a SIM slot — some US iPhones are sold eSIM-only and won’t accept our prepaid USIM.
Does this number work for app verification (Toss, Coupang, banking)?
Yes — it is a regular KT 010 number registered in your name, so SMS verification codes work the same as any Korean line (Coupang, delivery apps, KakaoTalk, most sign-ups).

One caveat: services that verify your Korean resident / alien registration number — banks, Toss, and other financial apps — also need your ARC. The line is not the blocker there; the ARC is. Once you have your ARC you can switch this same number to postpaid.
What happens to my prepaid top-up when I switch to postpaid?
A Mega Telecom exclusive: when you convert your prepaid line to a KT postpaid plan using the same number, your last prepaid top-up is registered as credit on your KT account. Your monthly bills are deducted from that credit first, and nothing is charged to your bank account until it is used up. Only the last charge carries over, not every month you were on prepaid. Available at all 4 of our stores — just mention it at signup.
What happens when I leave Korea?
Your line auto-suspends when validity expires. When you return, just visit any of our stores with your passport to reactivate the same number.
What if my balance runs out or validity expires?
Service tapers in stages:
  • Day 0: Outgoing calls and texts stop
  • Day 14: All service (incoming included) stops
  • Day 44: Line terminated. Number returned to KT pool.
Remaining balance is not refunded. Top up before Day 44 to keep the same number.
What are the rates if I exceed my plan?
Beyond your monthly quota (VAT included):
  • Voice: ₩1.98 / second
  • Video call: ₩3.3 / second
  • SMS: ₩22 each
  • LMS (long message): ₩33 each
  • MMS (with image): ₩220 each
Data has no overage charge — you continue at the after-cap speed instead.
